The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to support Nigeria’s automotive development and energy transition.
The renewed push for cooperation followed a courtesy visit by the NADDC delegation to the NMDPRA headquarters in Abuja recently.
The delegation was led by the Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Osanipin and was received by the Chief Executive of NMDPRA, Saidu Mohammed.
Discussions during the meeting focused on identifying areas of partnership that aligned with national priorities around industrial development, sustainable mobility and the ongoing transition to cleaner energy sources.
Osanipin highlighted NADDC’s regulatory role in ensuring safety and quality standards in the conversion of vehicles from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
He noted that the council works closely with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to certify conversion kits and accredit workshops equipped with the necessary tools and qualified engineers to carry out safe vehicle conversions.
He also stressed that the success of the CNG conversion programme largely depended on the availability and accessibility of gas across the country, adding that closer cooperation with NMDPRA would help guarantee adequate supply to support the expanding network of conversion centres nationwide.
Responding, Mohammed emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between both institutions and assured the NMDPRA’s readiness to deepen its partnership with NADDC in ways that would benefit the organisations and contribute to broader economic development.
