.. Set to Represent Anambra in State Finals
There’s a special kind of excitement that sweeps through a school when hard work meets recognition. At Osnon Academy, Uga, that excitement is palpable this week.
Two Year 9 students, Emmanuel Chinwuba and Ronald Okpala, emerged 1st and 3rd respectively in the entire Anambra State at the recently held South East Maths Olympiad, scoring an impressive 117 out of 120 and 112 out of 120.
The competition, which took place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, was fully computer-based and featured bright young minds from across the region. A total of 10 students from Osnon Academy represented the school in what proved to be a rigorous and highly competitive academic contest.
Now, Emmanuel and Ronald are set to represent Anambra State in the finals scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, a remarkable achievement not just for the students and their families, but for the entire Osnon Academy community.
A Victory Built on Support and Vision
Osnon Academy is a free school project passionately promoted by Nonso Okpala, the Group Managing Director of VFD Group Plc and proudly sponsored by the Group, it’s subsidiaries like Anchoria, HEREL GLOBAL, Bvndle and other investment stakeholders as part of their commitment to educational advancement and youth empowerment.
The school’s success at the Olympiad underscores what becomes possible when opportunity meets potential.
Speaking on the achievement, the GMD of VFD Group Plc expressed his pride and excitement at the students’ performance:
“This achievement fills me with immense pride. Seeing Emmanuel and Ronald rise to the top in a competition of this calibre is deeply rewarding, not just as a sponsor of this initiative, but as someone who believes strongly in the transformative power of education. Osnon Academy was created to give bright young minds access to opportunity, and today, we’re witnessing that vision come alive,” said Okpala.
He added a message directed at young people across the country:
“To every young person watching this, I encourage you to strive boldly for your dreams. Be vigorous in the pursuit of your academics and whatever you set your heart to. Excellence is not accidental, it is built through discipline, curiosity and courage. The future belongs to those who prepare for it,” he said.
A Moment of Pride for the School
The Head of School, Dr. Arinze Izuegbunam, described the moment as one of collective joy and gratitude.
“We are so delighted in the school, and we are grateful for the support of the Osnon Academy Governing Board and Chude and Ego Foundation,” Izuegbunam said.
“Success knows no boundaries – not of birth, not of place, and not of circumstance. It’s the fire in your soul, the grit in your heart, and the courage to chase your dreams that defines your path,” he said.
For a free school initiative, achievements like this resonate even more deeply. They signal that access to quality education, when properly supported, can compete at the highest levels.
The fact that the Olympiad was computer-based also reflects the school’s exposure to modern learning tools and digital assessment methods, ensuring students are not only academically strong but technologically prepared.
More Than a Competition
For Emmanuel Chinwuba and Ronald Okpala, the medals and rankings are only the beginning. For Osnon Academy, it is validation. For VFD Group Plc and its leadership, it is a reaffirmation that corporate-backed educational initiatives can deliver measurable impact.
As the two young scholars prepare for the March 7 finals, the pride of Anambra travels with them, along with the hopes of a school community that believes deeply in excellence.
If this week is any indication, the future of Nigerian mathematics is in very capable hands.
