Rotary empowers Lagos school, correctional centre

Rotary Club of Falomo

The Rotary Club of Falomo has commissioned a water project at Okesuna High School in Lagos to serve students and neighbours.

Speaking during the club’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project at the school, the club president, Ibrahim Sule, explained that the project involved installing a pumping machine and constructing taps to create a sustainable water supply system for the learning institution.

According to him, the initiative is part of Rotary’s commitment to improving access to clean water and promoting hygiene in rural communities.

Sule said the club would also return to the school to carry out a sanitation project that would include fixing wash hand basins and installing other sanitation facilities to ensure proper hygiene.

He noted that before the intervention, the school had no access to water, stressing that the project would improve sanitation and general well-being within the learning institution and the surrounding community.

Sule also called on the Federal Government to make funds available to expand water supply in rural communities across the country to promote hygiene.

He further disclosed that the club plans to support women through its microfinance scheme by giving N100,000 each to 10 women to support their businesses.

The club had also donated desktop computers to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos.

Sule said the move is to support rehabilitation efforts within the correctional facility by providing inmates with access to digital learning tools and educational opportunities.

Officials of the correctional centre expressed appreciation to the club, noting that the computers would enhance educational and administrative activities within the facility and contribute positively to inmates’ rehabilitation programmes.

Also speaking, a past president of the club, Iheoma Obineche, stated that Rotary is committed to supporting initiatives that improve the lives of people, particularly in rural communities.

She called on the Federal Government and corporate organisations to partner with Rotary to implement more projects that would make life easier for people across the federation.
