President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri, Borno State, to coordinate operations and restore stability following the recent terrorist attacks in the state capital.
The directive forms part of the Federal Government’s immediate response to the coordinated assaults on military formations and communities in the area.
The President gave the order while expressing deep sympathy to families of those who lost their lives and to residents affected by the violence.
“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured, and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu said.
According to the President, the deployment of the country’s top security leadership to the state is aimed at strengthening operational coordination among security agencies and ensuring swift containment of the threat posed by the insurgents.
He described the attacks as desperate attempts by terrorist groups seeking to spread fear, insisting that the criminals were already under intense pressure from Nigeria’s armed forces and other security agencies across different theatres of operation.
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he said.
Tinubu commended the courage and resilience of the Nigerian military and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force for successfully repelling the coordinated attacks on military positions in the state.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” he stated.
The President noted that the attacks carried out on Monday were acts of desperation by terrorist groups and expressed confidence that security forces would decisively neutralise them.
“Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down,” he said.
Tinubu also disclosed that he had recently approved additional equipment and operational support for the armed forces and security agencies to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he said.
He further directed emergency response agencies to provide immediate medical attention and assistance to those injured in the attacks.
Reassuring Nigerians of his administration’s resolve to eliminate terrorism, Tinubu said no part of the country would serve as a safe haven for terrorists.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them.
“Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared.
