Airlines, airports and ground handlers can now gain control over baggage operations with the launch of SITA Bag Radar, a cloud-based analytics solution designed to transform operational baggage data into actionable intelligence across the entire baggage journey.

SITA said that baggage mishandling, ranging from missed connections to lost luggage, remains one of the most visible and costly challenges in air transport.

SITA Bag Radar consolidates data from existing systems, including Baggage Information Messages (BIMs), WorldTracer, Baggage Reconciliation Systems and Departure Control Systems and applies historical analysis, real-time monitoring and AI-driven predictive insights to identify potential disruptions before they escalate.

Director of Baggage, SITA, Nicole Hogg, said that airlines and airports generate huge volumes of baggage data daily, but much of it has historically been used to investigate problems after the fact.

Hogg stated that with passenger demand growing, operations teams needed earlier visibility of risks.

“SITA Bag Radar enables them to anticipate disruptions and act before missed connections or bottlenecks turn into mishandled bags,” he added.

The solution, he said, delivers insights through intuitive web-based dashboards, allowing operational teams to monitor emerging risks, intervene proactively and reduce mishandled bags.

Passengers benefit from fewer delays and lost luggage, while airlines see improvements in operational efficiency and lower compensation costs, Hogg stated.

With this launch, SITA said it is setting a new benchmark for intelligent baggage management, combining AI and cloud analytics to tackle one of aviation’s longest-standing operational headaches.
