Àjoyò celebrates Adire, makes Guinness World Record attempt

Dignitaries, including culture enthusiasts and fashion influencers, converged in Lagos, last weekend to witness Àjoyò Guinness World Records Attempt.

The event aimed to celebrate Nigeria’s iconicAdire fabric and to break the record for the “Most Photos of People Wearing Adire Patterned Clothing.”

During the event, participants were seen dressed in various styles of the traditional indigo-dyed textile, transforming the venue into a vibrant display of Adire patterns. According to the organisers, the initiative titled #Àjoyò2026 was to celebrate heritage while promoting Adire as a globally recognised cultural symbol.

Speaking, the representative of Àjoyò, Olabukola Olajuwon said: “The record attempt was created to spotlight indigenous craftsmanship and encourage wider appreciation for locally produced textiles. Officials monitored designated counting zones to ensure strict compliance with guidelines set by Guinness World Records.”

At the event were HRM Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, wife of the Ooni of Ife, Ojaja II; Managing Director, CardForte, Tunde Aka Bashorun; Divisional Head, Digital Banking, Providus Bank, Elliot Sangoleye; Executive Director, Providus Bank, DeoyeOjuroye; his wife, DasolaOjuroye; and other distinguished guests.

The record attempt was supported by Lagos and Ogun states, represented by Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Establishments and Training, Oluwatoyin Atanda-Rufai; Special Assistant to the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Zainab Oluwabusola Idowu, and Senior Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Prince Bola Basibo.
