Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will serve as a strong signal to Nigerians and the international community that the party remains vibrant and poised for a resurgence.
Wike made the remarks during an inspection of the convention venue at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, shortly after hosting party stakeholders to a dinner in Abuja ahead of the exercise.
No fewer than 2,000 delegates drawn from the 36 states of the federation are expected to converge at the Velodrome of the stadium for the party’s national convention.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation, noting that all necessary arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.
He urged delegates to maintain peace, discipline, and unity before, during, and after the convention.
“For me, this is a job well done. You can see we are not over-decorating; this is what they call proper arrangement. I’m sure Nigerians will be happy with what they will see. It will be a testimony that indeed the PDP has come back,” he said.
Wike added that the organisation of the convention reflects the party’s readiness for the future, commending members and committees for their commitment to making the event a reality.
On security, the FCT minister assured that adequate measures had been put in place to forestall any breach of peace. He noted the visible presence of security personnel at the venue as evidence of preparedness by relevant agencies.
“We are here to organise our convention the way it should be done. We will have a hitch-free convention. We have taken note of those who may want to cause confusion, and security agencies are fully prepared to handle such situations,” he said.
He further advised delegates to remain calm and orderly, and to support the efforts of the convention planning committees to ensure a successful exercise.
