A prominent Itsekiri youth group, Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance (IYGG), has urged former two-time President of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG), Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, to contest the Delta South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

The call was contained in a statement issued after what the group described as a strategic leadership meeting. It was jointly signed by the Delta South Coordinator of IYGG, Sam Oki Metsh, and the group’s Secretary, George Omatsuli.

The group said Edema possesses the leadership qualities, experience and community-driven vision required to represent the district at the National Assembly.

Describing him as a “transformational leader” with a proven track record in private enterprise and public service, IYGG said the Delta South Senatorial District needs a representative with integrity, political maturity and the competence to attract development and effectively advocate for the area.

The district comprises the Itsekiri, Ijaw and Isoko ethnic nationalities.

According to the group, its call is based on Edema’s longstanding commitment to service, philanthropy and inclusive leadership.

“We have closely watched your trajectory and believe you have the capacity to lead our people effectively. Your vision for inclusivity is what Delta South needs in 2027,” the statement said.

IYGG also stressed the importance of unity, noting that the next senator must be able to build bridges across ethnic and political divides.

The group cited Edema’s previous roles, including his tenure as President of the National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) and later NAIG, as evidence of his involvement in youth development and grassroots engagement.

It also referenced his role as Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), saying the position underscores his experience in managing community relations within the oil and gas sector.

The Delta South Senatorial seat remains one of the most competitive political positions in Delta State, drawing interest from major political stakeholders.
