Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has praised former Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for his dedication and outstanding service to Nigeria.
Obasanjo, in a letter obtained yesterday to celebrate Daniel’s 70th birthday, lauded his efforts in promoting peace among diverse ethnic and religious groups during his tenure as the governor of Ogun State between 2003 and 2011.
He divulged that the former governor laid the groundwork for social and economic progress in Ogun State, adding that Daniel’s life was a testament that with determination, hard work, and dedication, anyone can achieve success, regardless of humble beginnings.
The letter reads this:
“My dear Senator Daniel,
CONGRATULATIONS!
“I write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated February 7, 2026, and it is with the most sincere pleasure that I join your friends and well-wishers to rejoice with you and your family on the occasion of your 70th birthday celebration.”
” On behalf of my family and on my own behalf, I convey our heartiest congratulations and best wishes on this important milestone in your journey in life. We pray that God will continue to protect you and bless you in the years ahead with good health, joy and peace of mind.”
“As you reflect on your life from birth, you have every cause to thank God for many blessings and achievements. By all measures, you have lived a worthwhile life of service to your nation and humanity and have proved your competence in various fields of endeavour.”
“As part of your political service to Nigeria, you were elected as Governor of Ogun State from 2003-2011, within which period you pursued peaceful co-existence between people of different ethnicities and religions in Ogun State and put in place the foundation for social and economic growth.”
“Even currently as an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 2023, you have represented your constituency with uncommon sense of duty and dedication to the service of the good people who elected you to represent them in the National Assembly.”
“For all these, we give glory and honour to God, the Creator. Indeed, your life has demonstrated clearly that even from a modest background, determination, industry and dedication can lead to success in life. We are of great hope that you will continue the good work you are doing to the glory of God and to the benefit of our people. Once again, my dear Otunba, congratulations on this momentous occasion,” he added.
