The Delta State Police Command has disbursed a total of ₦16,679,749.92 to families of deceased police officers, in a gesture aimed at supporting those who lost loved ones in the line of duty.
The cheques, presented on Thursday to 13 beneficiaries, form part of ongoing welfare efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to cushion the impact of the loss on bereaved families and reaffirm institutional support for its personnel.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and significant, underscoring the Force’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their dependants.
He assured the beneficiaries that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them, stressing that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain invaluable and would never be forgotten.
“Their service and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered. The Force is committed to ensuring that their families are not left behind,” Oyeniyi said, while urging recipients to make prudent use of the funds.
The initiative highlights growing efforts by police authorities to improve morale within the ranks amid increasing security challenges across the country, where officers are frequently exposed to high-risk operations.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Command for the financial support.
He noted that the assistance would provide much-needed relief to the families and help them navigate the difficult period following their losses.
