Following the killings in Angwa Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led heads of security agencies on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos.
The visit, according to the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Col. Appolonia Anele, is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench lasting peace across the state.
The COAS was received by the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in what was described as a demonstration of strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.
Shaibu received a comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Maj.-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola.
The briefing highlighted ongoing operations and coordinated measures being implemented with other security agencies to contain threats, protect lives and property, and stabilise affected communities.
As part of his engagements, the Army Chief interacted with community leaders and residents, reassuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating fully with ongoing operations and investigations while continuing their lawful activities.
The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, commended the visit, saying the presence of top military leadership would boost public confidence and reinforce trust in security operations.
Similarly, the Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, expressed appreciation for the swift intervention, describing it as a strong reassurance to affected communities.
The statement reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of Shaibu, remains committed to working closely with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and other stakeholders to address security challenges.
It added that the coordinated approach reflects a strategic resolve to restore lasting peace, strengthen community resilience, and ensure Plateau State remains safe and secure for all.
