DNKI calls for decisive action over insecurity, energy crisis

Insecurity

De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI) has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive steps to address Nigeria’s growing security, economic and political challenges, warning that continued inaction could further endanger national stability.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday and signed by its International President, Chief Oliver Patrick, the group expressed deep concern over the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State, describing the attacks as “callous and senseless.”

DNKI said the incident, which claimed several innocent lives, underscored what it termed a persistent failure of the nation’s security architecture. The group sympathised with affected families and residents of Plateau State, while urging authorities to ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.

While commending President Tinubu over his visit to commiserate with the victims of the Jos attack, they said “Sympathy alone is not sufficient. What is required at this time is decisive, strategic and sustained action, and called  for a comprehensive review and overhaul of Nigeria’s security policies to curb rising insecurity nationwide.

DKNI also raised alarm over the rising cost of political participation, particularly the high fees for nomination forms imposed by major political parties. It warned that such costs were excluding ordinary Nigerians from the democratic process.

The group argued that democracy must remain inclusive and not be reserved for the wealthy, urging electoral reforms that would promote affordability, transparency and equal opportunity for all aspiring candidates.

On the economy, DNKI decried the country’s persistent electricity challenges, noting that unreliable power supply continues to cripple small and medium-scale enterprises. It said many businesses have been forced to shut down, while others rely heavily on generators, leading to increased production costs and higher prices for goods and services.

The statement further highlighted the impact of the power crisis on the healthcare sector, where hospitals face rising operational expenses due to dependence on alternative energy sources. According to DNKI, this has contributed to the increasing cost of medical care, making healthcare less accessible to ordinary citizens.

The group called on relevant authorities to urgently implement reforms in the power sector aimed at improving electricity generation, ensuring efficient distribution and promoting sustainable energy solutions.

DNKI reiterated its commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development, urging leaders at all levels of government to move beyond rhetoric and adopt people-centred policies that would restore public confidence and drive national progress
