The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has uncovered and dismantled a major illicit drug warehouse in Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commander of Narcotics, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday. He confirmed the arrest of a 37-year-old suspect, Roland Owie, and the seizure of a massive consignment of cannabis sativa.

According to him, the operation led to the evacuation of 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, weighing a total of 1,378 kilograms.
Ofoyeju said the operation, which was based on credible intelligence, underscores the agency’s unwavering commitment to suppressing drug supply.

He described the bust as a significant victory in the ongoing fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

“This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression. The seizure of 1,378 kilograms of cannabis in a single operation represents a major blow to the distribution network of these harmful substances,” he said.

“The importance of intercepting such a large quantity lies in preventing it from reaching our streets, schools and communities, thereby saving countless young people from the devastating effects of drug abuse.”

Ofoyeju reiterated that drug supply suppression remains a cornerstone of the NDLEA’s strategy.

“While we continue our demand reduction efforts through advocacy and rehabilitation, cutting off the source remains paramount. Every kilogram seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and makes our society safer.

“This arrest and seizure send a clear message to drug barons that Edo State is not a haven for illicit activities. We have zero tolerance, and our intelligence and operational capabilities remain strong,” he added.
