A Niger Delta-based group, the Rivers Grassroot Movement (RGM), has declared support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as progress in infrastructure, security and regional development.

The group made the declaration at a rally held at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, where its National Leader, Sobomabo Jackrich, said the endorsement followed consultations and an assessment of developments across the South-South region.

Jackrich said the group’s position was based on “observable improvements” in infrastructure and economic activity, referencing projects such as the Bonny-Bodo Road and the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

He also highlighted the establishment of the South-South Development Commission and renewed activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission under the leadership of Samuel Ogbuku, which he said have contributed to increased project delivery in the region.

At the event, the group announced the conferment of a board of trustees position on Ogbuku in recognition of his role in regional development initiatives.

RGM further expressed support for the continuation of pipeline surveillance operations, noting improvements in crude oil production and security in oil-producing communities.

The group also acknowledged the involvement of Seyi Tinubu in youth mobilisation efforts, naming him as a patron of the movement, while designating President Tinubu as its grand patron.

On Rivers State, the group commended Governor Fubara’s leadership style, describing it as focused on stability and development, and urged him to seek a second term to consolidate ongoing initiatives.

While describing itself as non-partisan, the movement said its endorsements were based on performance considerations rather than party affiliation, and called on stakeholders in the region to support continuity in governance.

The rally drew participants from across the state’s 23 local government areas and reflects growing political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
