Guwor mourns Kebbi Assembly Speaker

The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Usman Mohammed Ankwai, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Nigeria’s legislative community.

Guwor, who also serves as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, said the news of Ankwai’s death came as a rude shock, especially at a time when the country requires experienced and committed leaders to strengthen its democratic institutions.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, the conference chairman described the late speaker’s demise as both heartbreaking and painful, noting that his contributions to legislative development in Nigeria would not be forgotten.

He said Ankwai’s death was not only a loss to the government and people of Kebbi State but also to the wider legislative community, where he was widely respected for his humility, dedication, and service.

According to Guwor, the late speaker died in Cairo, Egypt, after a brief illness. He commended Ankwai’s unwavering commitment to the progress of Kebbi State and his active role within the Conference of Speakers, stressing that his absence would be deeply felt.

“On behalf of my colleagues across the nation, I mourn the loss of a committed legislator, a humble leader, and a true brother in the service of our nation,” Guwor said.

He extended condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the government and people of Kebbi State, members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, and all those affected by the loss.

“At this painful moment, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the government and people of Kebbi State, members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, and indeed all who mourn this irreparable loss,” he added.
Guwor also offered prayers for the repose of the late speaker’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.

He further prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, the people of Kebbi State, and the wider legislative community as they come to terms with the loss.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un — Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” Guwor stated.
