As concerns over insecurity continue to dominate national discourse, Nigerian recording artiste and media entrepreneur I. Uk has released a new awareness-driven song aimed at encouraging citizens to use the country’s toll-free 112-emergency number during distress situations.
Titled 112Culture, the initiative is designed to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of prompt emergency communication while supporting ongoing government efforts to strengthen public safety and rapid response systems.
According to the musician, the song release is part of his group’s broader advocacy campaign focused on promoting a nationwide culture of using the 112-emergency number in times of danger or crisis, as well as inculcating the usage as a culture in the Nigerian society.
He explained that timely communication with emergency responders can significantly reduce casualties and property loss, particularly in situations involving accidents, crime, fire outbreaks, or medical emergencies.
He noted that the current government has expanded and built more Emergency Communication Centres (ECC) across Nigeria.
“The 112Culture song was meticulously crafted to deliver the intended life-saving message. So it urges members of the public who may find themselves in distress or emergency situations like insecurity/violence, fire outbreak, accident, or health emergency, to remember to call the 112, as emergency responders like the Police, Fire-Fighters/Trucks, Ambulance, Federal Road Safety Corps among others, will be dispatched to rapidly rescue them,” I. Uk said.
The singer who was a former President of Mass Communication Students’ Association at Lagos State University of Science and Technology, explained that the idea for the awareness song emerged during a period of heightened insecurity across the country, when many communities faced delayed emergency responses due to lack of information or public awareness.
He stressed that many Nigerians remain unaware that the 112 number is toll-free and accessible across mobile networks, making it a critical tool for emergency intervention.
“The difference between life and death in many emergency situations often depends on how quickly help is contacted,” he said. “If more Nigerians understand and consistently use the 112 number, many preventable tragedies can be avoided.”
The musician, who is also a co-founder of the advocacy group 112CultureNigeria, mentioned that the National Orientation Agency (N.O.A.) also has a big national awareness campaign plan on the 112 Emergency Number and noted that the N.O.A. is free to use this new 112culture song for that, signaling a potential partnership.
The song is available on all I. Uk’s social media platforms, including Facebook, X(Twitter), Instagram, Tiktok etc., via his handle I. Uk@officialiuk
