A deeply troubling humanitarian situation has emerged in Port Harcourt, as Ambassador Zino Lexili Ogazi, the International Youth Network (IYN) Special Envoy for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 in West Africa, has issued an urgent call for intervention following a distressing discovery.
During a brief 24-hour visit to oversee a family property inspection, Amb. Ogazi encountered a physically challenged woman at the Greater Port Harcourt City bus station who has reportedly been abandoned by her family and left without care for over eight months.
Describing the situation as heartbreaking, the Envoy expressed outrage at what she called a growing crisis of compassion in society. She urged members of the public to rise to the occasion and offer help where the woman’s family had failed.
According to accounts from nearby workers and the victim herself, the woman had initially sought refuge at the OPM Church but was later asked to leave. Since then, she has remained at an open bus stop next to the church, exposed to harsh weather conditions without adequate care.
Her condition has deteriorated significantly. She is unable to walk and reportedly struggles to control her bodily functions, leaving her in a highly vulnerable and undignified state.
The discovery came at a critical moment for Amb. Ogazi, who was en route to the airport for an important business engagement. Despite efforts lasting over an hour to secure emergency medical assistance, she was ultimately unable to stay due to prior commitments.
However, she has refused to let the situation go unnoticed. Leveraging her platform, the Envoy has called on credible NGOs, medical personnel, and concerned individuals to urgently intervene and relocate the woman to a healthcare facility.
Amb. Ogazi who provided what she could for her immediate sustenance, has also pledged to cover the initial cost of the woman’s medical evaluation and treatment, emphasising her commitment to ensuring the victim receives urgent care.
The woman is currently located at a bus stop in Greater Port Harcourt City (TAF City), next to the OPM Church gate. Those willing to assist are encouraged to reach out via the Ambassador’s official Instagram handle @queenzee.supreme.
Reaffirming her belief in humanity, Amb. Ogazi noted that she may return to Nigeria to personally follow through on the rescue effort once her immediate obligations are concluded.
The situation has sparked renewed calls for compassion, collective responsibility, and urgent action to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
