Ebonyi ADC state congress produce two state chairman

The crisis rocking Ebonyi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC),on Saturday took another dimension following the emergency of two state chairman of the of the party following a two parallels congress conducted in the state

One the congress produced the incumbent state chairman Dr. Mrs Jennifer Nwafor while the other congress produced the former state chairman of the People Democratic Party PDP Barr. Silas Onu as state chairman.

The both congresses we’re conducted in different locations in Abakaliki the state capital.

Guardian gathered that both factions operated with a total of 262 delegates drawn from the 13 local government areas of the state, with 56 officials elected through consensus during the exercise.

Speaking after her re-election as state chairman for another four-year. Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor who was returned unopposed, emerged through a consensus arrangement where delegates affirmed her leadership alongside other members of the state executive committee thanked party faithful for their participation saying that now the party will take the state.

Nwafor said her decision to seek re-election was informed by the need to align with provisions of the Electoral Act, which stipulate timelines for party primaries.

She expressed appreciation to party members for their continued support and pledged to consolidate on efforts to strengthen the party’s structure across the state.

Adibe-Nwafor-led congress, key party officials elected include Okpara Emmanuel as Deputy Chairman, Udoma Victor Uduma as Vice Chairman (South), Ebe Kingsley as Vice Chairman (Central), Onyeka Urazi as Vice Chairman (North), and Mgboroko Chukwudi as State Secretary, among others.

Also speaking the chairman of the other congress Barrister Silas Onu expressed confidence in its legitimacy and readiness to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

Addressing supporters at Preston Luxury and Suites Hotel, Abakaliki, Onu commended party members for their commitment, described as orderly conduct during the ward, local government and state congresses, and declared that the ADC in Ebonyi was gaining momentum.

He criticised the ruling party in the state, alleging poor governance and mismanagement of resources, and vowed that the ADC would field credible candidates to contest and win elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

Onu further assured members of inclusive participation, emphasising grassroots mobilisation as central to the party’s strategy.

Also speaking, Chairman of the ADC Congress Committee in Ebonyi State, Uche Onyeagucha, dismissed claims of factionalisation, insisting that the congress conducted under his supervision remained the legitimate exercise recognised by the party’s national leadership.

He maintained that the committee was duly mandated to conduct the congress and had fulfilled its assignment in line with the party’s constitution, describing contrary claims as “false” and “misleading.”
