The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, for his outstanding contributions to modern policing and national development.
Disu made this known in a speech delivered at a grand reception organised by the Yewa Peoples Development Council in collaboration with the Yewa Traditional Council, held in Ilaro, Ogun State, in honour of the retired police chief, who is the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police and the first from Ogun State.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Onikan, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, Disu described Egbetokun as a distinguished, accomplished, and eminent son of Yewaland.
Speaking on the theme, “Celebrating a Life of Service, Integrity and Leadership: The Smartest and Mathematical IGP,” the police chief commended the organisers for recognising Egbetokun’s exemplary service, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national development during his 35 years of meritorious service.
He noted that Egbetokun’s tenure as Inspector-General recorded significant achievements in crime prevention, control, and management, leading to a reduction in violent crimes and other criminal activities across the country.

“His selflessness, compassionate leadership, and efforts at strengthening the Nigeria Police Force will remain indelible in the hearts of officers and men of the force,” Disu said.
He added that Egbetokun provided strong leadership in addressing emerging security challenges, ensuring that the police remained responsive, adaptive, and focused on its constitutional responsibilities.
“His tenure contributed meaningfully to reinforcing public confidence in policing and advancing institutional reforms. As he retires from active service, he does so with honour, dignity, and a legacy that will continue to serve as a reference point in the development of modern policing in Nigeria,” he added.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the retired IGP as a shining example of professionalism, integrity, and patriotism.
Represented by the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, the governor said Egbetokun’s career reflects discipline, courage, and unwavering dedication to national service.
“He holds the enviable distinction of being the first indigene of Ogun State to rise to the position of Inspector-General of Police. This is a landmark achievement that has permanently etched his name in our history,” he said.

Abiodun added that Egbetokun’s tenure was marked by a firm commitment to national security, institutional reforms, and the strengthening of public trust in law enforcement.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Solomon Adeola, also lauded the retired police chief for representing Yewaland and Ogun State with distinction.
He commended Egbetokun for facilitating the establishment of a Police College in Erinja, noting that it would contribute significantly to the development of the area. He also highlighted the deployment of Mopol Base 84 to Ilaro as crucial for enhancing security in the region.
