Operatives of the Sagamu Area Command of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 146 suspects in a coordinated raid, code-named “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe”.
The Guardian learnt that the operation forms part of efforts to prevent crime and address emerging security concerns in Sagamu and surrounding areas.
The exercise involved the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), reflecting a joint security response.
It followed consultations with traditional rulers, the Sagamu Local Council and heads of security agencies to strengthen collaboration.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the intelligence-led operation was carried out in the early hours of April 13, 2026, targeting identified flashpoints where criminal elements were believed to pose threats to public safety.
“The operation was designed to forestall any breakdown of law and order and reinforce public safety across the area.
“The suspects are undergoing screening to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities. Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the coordination and professionalism of participating agencies. He assured residents of sustained intelligence-led policing to maintain peace and security, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
