Offa Robbery: Kwara slams 20-count charge on Saraki, Ahmed

The Kwara State Government has filed a 20-count criminal charge against former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and former Governor, Abdulfatai Ahmed, over their alleged involvement in the infamous Offa armed robbery incident of April 2018.

Also named in the charge are Ahmed’s former Chief of Staff, Yusuf Abdulwahab, and an aide, Alabi Olalekan.

According to court documents, the defendants are accused of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and allegedly providing support to individuals convicted for their roles in the deadly robbery attack, which claimed several lives, including that of a police officer.

The charge, marked KWS/114C/26, was filed on April 9, 2026, by the Kwara State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Sulyman. The defendants are expected to be served on Friday, April 17, 2026.

The development follows a ruling by the Court of Appeal, which upheld the conviction of key suspects in the robbery, including Ayo Akinnibosun.

During trial proceedings, Akinnibosun reportedly confessed to being affiliated with Saraki’s political structure.

The defendants are scheduled to be arraigned before Justice Haleemah Salman of theKwara State High Court in Ilorin on June 4, 2026.

Part of the charge alleges that the accused committed culpable homicide punishable by death under Section 221 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006.

The charge specifically referenced the killing of Inspector Oanjuma Yusuf during the attack.

If convicted, Saraki, Ahmed, and the other defendants could face the maximum penalty under the law.

The Offa robbery remains one of Nigeria’s most notorious criminal incidents in recent years, drawing national attention due to its scale and the high-profile nature of the individuals allegedly linked to the case.
