Oyo 2027: Alli declares governorship bid, unveils development agenda

Senator Sharafadeen Alli

The lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, on Friday formally declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027, pledging to deliver purposeful leadership anchored on development and inclusive governance.

Alli, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the declaration at a well-attended event held at the Police Field, Yemetu, in Ibadan North Local Government Area, where thousands of party leaders, stakeholders and supporters gathered.

Addressing the crowd, the senator said his decision to join the race followed extensive consultations with political leaders, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders across the state.

He explained that his ambition was driven by a clear vision to move Oyo State forward through strategic development initiatives and people-oriented policies.

“I have consulted widely, and I am convinced that the time has come for me to step forward and offer myself for service as governor of Oyo State,” he said.

According to him, his experience in public service has adequately prepared him for the task ahead, noting that he has served the state in various capacities with dedication and commitment.

Alli recalled his tenure as Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government and later as Secretary to the State Government, where he contributed to policy implementation and governance.

He added that his current role as a senator had further provided him with the platform to advocate for the interests of his constituents and contribute to national discourse.

“I have served at different levels of governance, and in all these roles, I have remained committed to the progress and development of our state,” he said.

The declaration event attracted prominent political figures within the APC, including Senator Yunus Akintunde, members of the House of Representatives such as Akin Alabi, Aderemi Oseni, Akeem Adeyemi and Olafisoye Akinmoyede, among others.

Also in attendance were former Deputy Governor Iyiola Oladokun, party stalwarts and grassroots mobilisers, who expressed support for Alli’s aspiration.

Observers noted that the formal declaration signals the commencement of political realignments within the APC in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alli assured party members and supporters of an issue-based campaign, promising to prioritise development, good governance and the welfare of the people if elected.

He urged stakeholders within the party to remain united and work collectively towards achieving victory in the forthcoming election.
