When you consider the world and all the experiences facing man, today, there is a cry and a need for a saviour.
Specifically, in todays Nigeria, we are faced with economic hardship; ranging from inflation to high rate of unemployment and a weakened Naira, leaving many to struggle to get their basic needs.
At the extreme end, we have persistent insecurity; banditry, terrorism, and sectarian violence, which has continued to destabilise communities. Insecurity has become a national tragedy and embarrassment.
Everyday, we wake up to hear one sad news or another across the country. For instance, during last Sunday Palm Sunday celebration we were told of the killing of at least 27 people in a mostly Christian community in Angwan Rukuba, Plateau State, Nigeria.
The incident happened at around 8:00p.m, when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a popular gathering spot in AngwanRukuba in the city of Jos. Even a pregnant woman was reportedly killed. Till date, the number of people who died is unclear.
The Bible demonstrates God’s ability to save even in the worst condition. For example, God saved the Israelites in Egypt; rescued David from Saul; saved Israel from the hand of their enemies; saved Daniel from the Lion’s den; while Shadrack, Meshackand Abednego were saved from the furnace as well as the apostles from their persecutors.
What God Saves Us From:
• Sin and its power
• Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
• God saves us from the penalty and bondage of sin, offering freedom through Christ’s sacrifice.
Death And Eternal Separation
• John 3:16: God’s love ensures that those who believe in Jesus will not perish, but have eternal life.
• Salvation means deliverance from eternal death and separation from God.
Judgment And Wrath
• Romans 5:9: “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!”
• Believers are spared from the final judgment because Christ bore it on their behalf.
Fear And Condemnation
• 1 John 4:18: “Perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.”
• God’s saving love removes fear of condemnation, giving peace and assurance.
Hopelessness And Despair
• Psalm 34:17-18: God saves the broken-hearted and delivers them from troubles.
• Salvation is not only spiritual, but also brings comfort and hope in life’s struggles.
Conclusion
The part to salvation is Christ; He is the way, the Truth and life. Whosoever calls upon His name and believe in His finished work shall be saved. Who, How to be saved: “Anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved,” Acts 2:21.
