• Ondo APC chairman vows ‘level field,’ allays fears on consensus
• GMT knocks Ondo APC leadership over support groups’ registration directive
An aspirant for the Ondo South Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Janet Adeyemi, has thrown her weight behind the consensus mode of primary, stressing that the approach will demonetise the political process of candidates’ emergence.
Adeyemi said that the direct primary system tends to favour individuals whose wealth enables them to buy their way through the electoral process.
The aspirant further said that it would be ethically improper for the Senate to produce a candidate from the same zone as the sitting governor, advocating that Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo deserves the seat.
Also, a frontline aspirant for the Ondo North Senatorial District, Alex Oluremi Ajipe, at the weekend, disclosed that the senatorial seat should be returned to the Owo/Ose axis for the sake of fairness and equity.
However, one of the prominent support groups mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), at the weekend, berated the party leadership over a purported directive requiring all support groups in the state to register with the party.
The group, Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), while describing the move as unfortunate, stressed that the current party leadership in the state ought to focus on uniting all stakeholders for the President’s re-election rather than issuing draconian orders aimed at coercing people into submission.
According to a statement issued and signed by the GMT Director of Media in the state, Ojo Oyewamide, the directive could undermine mobilisation efforts for Tinubu’s re-election, accusing the state executives of pursuing what it described as a teleguided vendetta against certain party members.
