The Yobe State Police Command has arrested seven suspects over burglary, theft and a series of phone snatching incidents in Nayi-Nawa, Bindigari, One Million Road and Pompomari communities in Damaturu Local Council of the state.

The suspects were identified as Usman Mohammed, 20; Abubakar Adamu, 20; Mohammed Ibrahim, 22; Mohd Goni, 19; Khalifa Mohammed, 19; Abubakar Mohammed, 19; and Ali Mohammed, 23.

Police said the arrests followed a breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle crime across the state.

Confirming the development in a statement issued yesterday in Damaturu, the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said: “In a coordinated operation carried out by the operatives of ‘A’ Division, Damaturu, between April 16 and 19, 2026, a notorious criminal syndicate operating within Nayinawa, Bindigari, One Million Road, and Pompomari wards of Damaturu was successfully dismantled,” adding that this led to the apprehension of seven suspects for allegedly committing crimes.”

He said: “During their interrogation by the police, the suspects confessed to involvement in a series of burglary, theft, and phone snatching incidents within the affected four areas.

“They also admitted to stealing seven Android phones and two keypad phones,” adding that six of the stolen phones have already been recovered as exhibits.”

Abdulkarim said investigations were ongoing with a view to prosecuting the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication in combating crime in the state.

He directed sustained operations targeting criminal hideouts and enclaves across the state.

The commissioner also emphasised the need for enhanced surveillance and intelligence-led policing, while urging the public to continue to support the police with credible information to strengthen the fight against crime.
