Mike Makinde, an eight-handicapper, has emerged overall winner of the 15th edition of the Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial (DOAM) Foundation Golf Tournament after a thrilling and gruelling contest held last Saturday at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Course in Lagos.

Makinde clinched the title with a 65 nett score, ahead of Paul Tijani (12 handicap) and Segun Adekoya (11 handicap), who finished as first and second runners-up, respectively.

Interestingly, both runners-up had featured prominently in the previous edition, with Tijani finishing as second runner-up and Adekoya emerging overall winner at the 14th tournament in 2025.

Makinde’s victory was widely applauded as he not only lifted the coveted winner’s trophy but also went home with a Zinox Elite Pro 2 Ultra 7 Intel Core laptop, sponsored by Zinox Technologies, as well as an M1 Basic BP Monitor.

Speaking after his win, Makinde said: “Winning, in anything, is a result of hard work and dedication, and I feel so happy to have won at this time. It confirms that my hard work, the hard work of all players and that of the organisers of this event pays off.

“I appreciate the organisers for their consistency in maintaining the lofty standards that we have come to know and enjoy about the tournament. I also appreciate DOAM Foundation for the good work it is doing in society for the less privileged. Understanding the impact of the Foundation on society makes this victory even more meaningful.”

He also commended the DOAM Foundation team and the Ikoyi Club Golf Section for the quality of organisation and the tournament’s impact in supporting charitable causes through its annual event.

In the ladies’ category, Pauline Onafowokan emerged overall winner with a 70 nett score, beating Toluwaleshe Balogun, who finished as runner-up, while Oluyemi Afariogun placed third.
