Pelumi Olajengbesi, the spokesman for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Re-election Campaign Council, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) must apologise to civil servants in the state before seeking power again in the state.
In a statement on Friday, Olajengbesi said while civil servants enjoy prompt payment of salaries since Adeleke’s emergence in 2022, the workers endured hardship and inconsistent salary payment under the immediate-past administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC between 2018 and 2022.
Olajengbesi, an Accord Party chieftain, said, “The APC must, as a matter of urgency, present a clear account of its stewardship while in government. It must explain to the people the economic strain, institutional decline, and governance challenges that characterised its administration.
“Civil servants in Osun State, in particular, endured significant hardship under APC rule. Salaries were inconsistent, retirees were neglected, and morale within the public service was severely undermined. These are not abstract claims, they are lived experiences of thousands of workers across the state.
“It is therefore both ironic and deeply insensitive for those associated with that era to attempt a return to power without first acknowledging their failings.
“We call on the Osun APC to tender an unreserved apology to the civil servants of Osun State before seeking to re-engage the electorate. Accountability must precede ambition.”
Olajengbesi was reacting to a statement issued by the APC in Osun State chapter signed by Kola Olabisi in reaction to his interview on Rave FM.
He said, “Rather than engage with the real issues affecting the people of Osun State, the APC has once again resorted to diversion, distortion, and needless personal attacks, a clear indications of a political opposition struggling to find relevance in the face of visible governance and public confidence in the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The transformation currently being witnessed across Osun State is not speculative; it is evident, measurable, and acknowledged by the people. This renewed confidence in government has understandably unsettled those whose time in office was defined by hardship, stagnation, and administrative uncertainty.
“The people of Osun State deserve more than noise. They deserve answers.”
Olajengbesi said Adeleke’s administration has restored a measure of dignity to governance, prioritised workers’ welfare, and rekindled public trust.
“Osun voters are discerning. They will interrogate records, not rhetoric. They will choose progress over regression,” he said.
