The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has directed officers of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that citizens are treated with civility and professionalism.
Speaking on Saturday during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents (LAGOCO) in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. Disu said officers must recognise citizens as their “bosses.”
“I have told the officers not to bring the name of the Rapid Response Squad down.
“They must treat members of the public as their bosses because they are paid with taxpayers’ money,” Disu said.
Disu, who once served as RRS commander in Lagos, also spoke about his longstanding relationship with journalists, describing the media as critical partners in maintaining transparency and public confidence.
Speaking further, the IGP said he was in Lagos to engage with key stakeholders, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, senior police officials, and RRS personnel, aimed at reinforcing discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights within the Force.
Commending the police boss, a representative of LAGOCO, Chairman George Okojie, praised Disu’s people-oriented leadership style, describing him as humble and accessible.
Expressing confidence in Disu’s leadership, he noted that it offers hope for continued improvement in policing across Nigeria.
