The Bishop of the Diocese of Ife, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Olubunmi Akinlade has cautioned political actors against actions capable of overheating the nation’s polity, warning that such tendencies pose a grave threat to the sustenance of democratic governance.
Akinlade gave the charge at the weekend, during the third session of the 12th Synod of the Diocese of Ife, held at the Cathedral of St. Philip, Aiyetoro, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
He decried what he described as “unprecedented political alignments and defections,” noting that the trend, largely driven by personal interests, is gradually steering the country towards a one-party dominant system, which he said would be inimical to the growth of democracy.
ALSO, the Ekiti Anglican Diocese of the church has called on Nigerians to embrace Godly parenting, uphold electoral integrity, and demand stronger security measures.
This appeal was part of the resolutions made at the conclusion of the third session of its 20th Synod, which also included activities marking its 60th anniversary.
The synod took place at the Ekiti Diocesan Camp Ground (Ile Adura) and gathered over 700 participants, including clergy, laity, and church leaders.
The event, which was presided over by the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr Andrew Olusola Ajayi stressed that raising God-fearing children is both a spiritual and social responsibility.
It, therefore, urged parents to prioritise discipline, intentional Christian upbringing, and mentorship as essential tools for shaping future generations.
