Record labels remain an important part of artist development in the music industry. Music is an expressive art and a gift to the people. It is cultural and, at the same time, universal for diverse purposes. While some artists succeed independently, many rely on record labels for distribution, funding and structure. In Nigeria, today, SIINKO is one of the several emerging independent music platforms.

SIINKO, a Nigerian-based independent record label, outlet and music distributor was founded by Chinedu Ezionu on March 4, 2021. The record label, and an outlet, seeking to expand its presence in the industry and their services even for half a decade supports emerging artist by providing distribution, promotion, and industry access. As there is more to the art, SIINKO aims to address the gaps for independent African artists, especially the ones into Afrobeats.

The essence for the establishment of SIINKO has been to enable emerging and independent artists in Africa to develop their sound at an early age and to also build sustainable careers over time. The initiative was influenced by the founder’s lifelong passion for music, his experiences running a popular music mashup channel on YouTube where promising African acts were promoted; which led to the creation of SIINKO as a platform for promoting artists

Since its establishment in 2021, the record label has signed over six artists: RunUp, Pallaso, Tibey, YoungDzee, Jaysing, and Ziza Bafana. While it is daunting to support independent artists, providing full financial support, industry access, legal backup, professional structure, among others, SIINKO finds it fulfilling to help shape an artist’s journey. It has encountered some challenges which it has overcome, embracing its lessons and also built stronger relationships as networking is key in the industry.

The label reports a catalogue of over 140 recordings and more than 500 million streams across digital platforms. RunUp is one of the label’s artists, and his released track, “Tsunami” has surpassed 12 million YouTube views. This same song has won awards at the Isango na Muzika Awards (IMA) and at the 2025 DIVA Awards in Rwanda as the Song of the Year.

There has never been any moment that laziness, indolence, cheating or some other sorts of vices has been confined in the label. Every management staff is positioned to strategically shape the brand of every signed artist, help foster creativity and also protect their works, among goals. In the process of looking out for artists, SIINKO checks authenticity, uniqueness, and a clear message in the artist’s music. Not only that, to ensure alignment in goals and development, the artist’s mindset, work ethic, open-minded nature to development, and seriousness are also being checked before an artist is signed to the label.

Since its founding in 2021, SIINKO has positioned itself as a platform supporting independent African artists with the primary focus on Afrobeats. Founded by a Nigerian music executive, Chinedu Ezionu, the Nigerian record label and music outlet has given opportunities to young African artists and longing to help more achieve their dreams. From RunUp, Pallaso to Ziza Bafana among other artists, and continues to work with artist across different markets
