The Lagos State Government has procured and handed over operational vehicles to enhance the implementation of the World Bank Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) Programme across critical sectors in the state.
The initiative is aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening accountability mechanisms and supporting monitoring activities under the programme.
It also follows a recent statewide sensitisation exercise that showcased achievements recorded through the HOPE Programme.
The newly acquired vehicles have been allocated to the three major delivery pillars of the programme-Governance, Primary Health and Basic Education-with a strategic focus on monitoring and evaluation.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, said logistics support remained essential to sustaining the impact of government interventions.
George noted that the ministry, as coordinating agency for the HOPE Programme in Lagos State, was committed to strengthening institutional capacity, promoting transparency and ensuring data-driven decision-making across implementing sectors.
He said the procurement of the vehicles was a deliberate step to improve the efficiency and reach of the programme, adding that the assets would enhance field operations, data collection and supervisory functions.
According to him, effective monitoring and evaluation are central to preserving the gains already achieved under the initiative.
The commissioner further stated that the ministry’s coordinating role was crucial in ensuring synergy among participating agencies, deepening accountability and aligning programme outcomes with the broader development priorities of the state government.
He expressed confidence that the vehicles would support timely reporting, improve oversight mechanisms and translate into better service delivery outcomes for Lagos residents.
George also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued support towards the successful implementation of the programme.
“The procurement of these operational vehicles is a deliberate step towards deepening the efficiency and reach of the World Bank HOPE- Programme. Effective monitoring and evaluation are central to sustaining the gains we have recorded so far, and these assets will significantly enhance field operations, data collection, and supervisory functions across the three key sectors.”
In line with plans for effective deployment, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, formally presented the vehicle keys to beneficiary Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Among recipients was the Permanent Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Mustapha, who received keys on behalf of the health sector, alongside other implementing agencies under the programme.
The World Bank HOPE Programme is designed to strengthen governance systems and improve human capital development indicators in line with the Lagos State Government’s THEMES+ Agenda.
