NDLEA arrests grandparents, others for drug dealing, seizes illicit substances in nationwide crackdown

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a suspected drug dealer, Taofik Adeyemi, 49, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He was apprehended alongside his associate, Mustapha Oyerinde, 28, at his residence in the Erunmu area after months of evading arrest. Two of his associates, Abiodun Abiola and Aderinde Ibrahim, were earlier arrested on December 8, 2025, and are currently facing prosecution at the Federal High Court in Ibadan.

At the time of Adeyemi’s arrest, 3.085 kilogrammes of skunk and a Toyota Camry with registration number EPE 299 JZ were recovered.

In a separate operation in Ibadan, two women, Rebecca King, 24, and Olaniyan Opeyemi, 31, were arrested in connection with the seizure of 1.925 kilogrammes of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis. Rebecca was intercepted while transporting the consignment along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday, April 29, while Opeyemi was arrested in a follow-up operation at Iwo Road, Ibadan, while attempting to receive the shipment.

An 83-year-old man, Pa John Ofiel, and a 78-year-old man, Ogunjobi Samuel, were among suspects arrested in the ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.

Pa Ofiel was arrested on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during a raid at Samek by Powerline, Aba, Abia State, following intelligence reports linking him to drug dealing. About 700 grammes of skunk, packaged in retail sachets, were recovered from him. He reportedly claimed he was a shoemaker before entering the illicit drug trade.

In a related operation in Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives on Thursday, April 30, arrested Ogunjobi at his residence on H22 Owode Street, Ilupeju-Ekiti, where 350 grammes of the substance were seized.

In Osun State, a 65-year-old driver, Oladayo Awoyemi, was arrested on Thursday, April 30, at the Ile-Ife toll gate along the Ibadan–Ilesha Expressway while transporting a carton containing 7 kilogrammes of skunk and 15 grammes of methamphetamine in a vehicle with registration number LES 114 AG. A follow-up operation in Ilesha led to the arrest of the alleged owner of the consignment, Ifedayo Babalola, 40.

A 27-year-old suspect, Yahaya Shehu, was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri Road in Borno State, where 76,440 pills of Tramadol (225mg) were recovered.

In another operation in Borno, a truck driver, Magaji Isa, 30, was arrested following the interception of 14,000 capsules of Tramadol. A follow-up operation in Biu led to the arrest of the alleged owner, Abdulhamid Mahmud, 28.

On Saturday, May 2, NDLEA operatives intercepted a Honda Ridgeline vehicle marked KSF 65 EQ along the Abuja–Jos highway in Kaduna, leading to the recovery of 393 blocks of compressed skunk weighing 290 kilogrammes. Two suspects, Ojo Major Ebose, 36, and Chika Obiechefula, 32, were arrested.

Similarly, no fewer than 49,800 capsules of Tramadol were seized from two suspects, Ahmed Garba, also known as Fangale, 50, and Sale Mohammed, 41, along Bauchi Road in Hadejia, Jigawa State on Friday, May 1.

In Lagos State, NDLEA operatives raided Awolowo Market in Mushin on Saturday, May 2, recovering 740 kilogrammes of skunk. In Edo State, an intelligence-led operation at Idogbo community, Benin City, on Thursday, April 30, led to the arrest of a suspect, Godstime Godspower, 25.

Recovered substances from him included 57 grammes of Loud, three grammes of Colorado, eight grammes of Tramadol, three grammes of Swinol and 57 grammes of methamphetamine.
