Alerte Universal has announced a strategic partnership with the Odushu Foundation to advance a targeted intervention aimed at addressing the growing challenges facing boys in society.
Dr James Useghan, Founder, Alerte Universal revealed that the collaboration, centred on the Boy Child Initiative, seeks to provide structured support systems that tackle emotional, educational, and economic barriers affecting young males.
According to James who recently got appointed as a United Nations peace ambassador said “The initiative comes amid increasing concern over what stakeholders describe as a “silent crisis,” where societal expectations around masculinity discourage boys from expressing vulnerability.
” Experts have linked these pressures to rising cases of school disengagement, behavioural issues, and long-term marginalisation.
He revealed the partnership, representatives of both organisations emphasised the urgency of redefining how society nurtures boys. They noted that traditional norms often condition boys to suppress emotions such as fear and sadness, limiting their ability to develop healthy coping mechanisms and interpersonal skills.
” The Odushu Foundation’s framework, built on four pillars Education, Innovation, Orientation, and Scholarship, forms the backbone of the initiative.
” Through this model, the partnership aims to deliver comprehensive programmes that not only keep boys in school but also prepare them for sustainable futures.
” Under the education pillar, the initiative will promote inclusive learning strategies that recognise diverse cognitive styles, helping boys remain engaged academically. This is expected to reduce dropout rates and improve overall educational outcomes.
The founder further stated that the innovation component will focus on equipping participants with practical skills in technology, digital entrepreneurship, and vocational trades.
” Organisers say this approach is designed to bridge the gap between education and employability, giving boys clearer career pathways.
” Equally significant is the orientation pillar, which will provide mentorship programmes and emotional literacy training. These sessions are intended to reshape perceptions of masculinity by encouraging empathy, responsibility, and constructive conflict resolution.
” To ensure long-term impact, the scholarship arm of the initiative will offer financial support to boys at risk of leaving school due to economic hardship. By addressing financial barriers, the programme aims to break the cycle that often forces young boys into early labour or unsafe environments.
He noted both organisations stressed that the initiative is not positioned in opposition to efforts supporting girls but rather complements broader equity goals. According to them, addressing the unique challenges faced by boys is essential to building balanced and thriving communities.
” They further highlighted that empowering boys with emotional intelligence, quality education, and access to opportunities ultimately contributes to stronger families, more productive workplaces, and a more stable society.
” The partnership signals a growing recognition among development-focused organisations that gender-responsive interventions must be inclusive and nuanced. For Alerte Universal and the Odushu Foundation, the Boy Child Initiative represents not just a programme, but a long-term investment in societal transformation.
” As implementation begins, stakeholders express optimism that the collaboration will set a precedent for similar interventions, ensuring that no child’s potential is overlooked or left undeveloped.” He said
