DIWA donates electric wheelchairs to Persons with Disabilities in Niger

Development Initiative of West Africa (DIWA)

A non-governmental organisation, Development Initiative of West Africa (DIWA), has donated electric wheelchairs to persons with physical disabilities in Minna, Niger State capital.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DIWA, Mr. Daoda Kanneh, made the symbolic presentation of the wheelchairs at the organisation’s headquarters, IET premises, Minna, on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

He said the gesture reflects the organisation’s core mission of empowering people with mobility challenges to fully participate in their communities, pursue education and employment opportunities, and regain independence.

Mr. Kanneh further emphasised that DIWA’s commitment goes beyond the provision of assistive devices. According to him, the organisation is focused on working with families, health professionals, and community leaders to eliminate barriers, promote inclusion, and create sustainable pathways to opportunity.

He assured that DIWA would continue to improve its distribution processes, provide follow-up support to beneficiaries, and monitor outcomes to ensure that each mobility aid translates into measurable improvements in health, education, and economic participation.

“DIWA believes that mobility is a catalyst for stronger families, more resilient communities, and a brighter future for beneficiaries,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to partners, sponsors, and community volunteers for their continued support of the organisation’s humanitarian efforts.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Ms. Habiba Garba expressed gratitude for the intervention.

“Honestly, we were expecting to see ordinary wheelchairs. But on getting here, we saw electric wheelchairs that will make our movement very easy. This is unprecedented because I have never seen this type before, and I never imagined that one day I would own one,” she said.

Garba commended DIWA for its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in society, particularly persons with disabilities.
