Grammy award winner and Afrobeats star, Ayodeji Ibrahim, well known as Wizkid, is on the verge of making global streaming history as he edges closer to becoming the first African artiste to surpass 11 billion total streams on leading global audio streaming service provider, Spotify.
According to current streaming data, the Made in Lagos, Essence and other hits maker have already crossed 10.8 billion streams across all credits on the platform, leaving him just 200 million streams shy of the historic landmark.
With an average daily streaming velocity of approximately 7.2 million streams, industry projections suggest the milestone could be achieved before the end of June 2026. The feat further reinforces Wizkid’s status as one of Africa’s most commercially successful and globally influential music exports.
Over the years, the singer has consistently expanded the international reach of Afrobeats through chart-dominating records, sold-out tours, and high-profile collaborations with some of the world’s biggest music stars.
From breakout hits like Holla at Your Boy, Ojuelegba to global anthems such as Essence, the seflf-proclaimed ‘Baba Nla’ has played a defining role in pushing African music into mainstream global conversations.
His streaming numbers have continued to surge across major digital platforms, particularly following the worldwide success of his collaborations with artistes like Drake, Beyonce, and Justin Bieber.
The anticipated 11 billion-stream milestone is expected to place Wizkid in an elite category of global music heavyweights, while also marking another major achievement for the Afrobeats movement on the international stage.
