Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed several terrorists in a coordinated airstrike that targeted a suspected insurgent meeting in Zamfara State, in what the military described as a major blow to criminal networks operating in the North-West region.

The operation was carried out on May 10, 2026, at Tumfa Village in Shinkafi Local Government Area following credible intelligence indicating that suspected terrorist commanders had gathered for a strategic meeting at a concealed location on the outskirts of the community. Military authorities said the meeting point was carefully hidden within a densely vegetated area, making it a preferred hideout for insurgent coordination activities.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2, in collaboration with the Air Component of the operation, launched a precision airstrike after sustained surveillance confirmed the exact location of the gathering.

The statement explained that the strike was carefully executed to minimise collateral damage while ensuring maximum impact on the suspected terrorist enclave.

The military confirmed that the targeted structure used for the meeting was completely destroyed during the airstrike. It added that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist command structures and disrupt planning activities that often lead to attacks on rural communities across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Following the strike, a Battle Damage Assessment conducted by security forces reportedly confirmed that several terrorists were killed instantly, while others fled the scene with varying degrees of injury.

The assessment also indicated that the explosion and subsequent chaos forced surviving suspects to abandon the location in disarray.

Further aerial surveillance carried out after the operation reportedly detected suspected associates of the group attempting to evacuate casualties from the strike zone under the cover of surrounding vegetation. Security sources said this movement further confirmed the effectiveness of the strike in disrupting the group’s operational stability.

In response, ground troops have intensified clearance and exploitation operations in and around Tumfa Village to track fleeing suspects, recover additional intelligence, and prevent regrouping by remnants of the insurgent network.

Residents in nearby communities have also been advised to remain vigilant as security operations continue in the area.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reiterated its commitment to sustaining coordinated military offensives against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements operating across the North-West.

The task force stated that ongoing air and ground operations are aimed at weakening insurgent capabilities, restoring normalcy, and ensuring the safety of affected communities in Zamfara State and beyond.
