Ogun community leader cries out over alleged false charges, threat to life

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun

A community leader in Apena Village, Obada-Oko, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Baale Abiodun Okunboye Gbadamosi, has raised the alarm over alleged threats to his life and what he described as false criminal charges linked to a lingering land dispute involving the traditional ruler of Obada-Oko, Oba Abiodun Olufemi Solaja.

In a petition dated May 6, 2027, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, Gbadamosi appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene and “save his soul” from alleged intimidation, harassment and injustice.

The Baale alleged that the crisis stemmed from a land dispute that began in September 2021, when the monarch and his brother, Dotun Solaja, accused him of attacking one Lekan Jogunomi with a machete on a disputed parcel of land, stealing his wristwatch and damaging his vehicle

He denied the allegations, insisting that he was nowhere near the disputed land at the time of the incident.
“The allegations were baseless. I did not attack anyone, nor was I present at the scene as claimed,” he stated.
Gbadamosi explained that he was subsequently arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, Lagos, and arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Itori on charges bordering on armed robbery and related offences.

According to him, he was remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre before eventually securing bail.
The community leader further alleged that a follow-up investigation conducted by the police X-Squad in Eleweran, Abeokuta, later revealed that the medical report allegedly issued to the complainant had been forged.

He said the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, on January 26, 2024, officially disowned the medical report, stating that it did not emanate from the hospital, after which the police concluded that the document was forged.
Gbadamosi noted that Justice A. A. Babawale of the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, eventually discharged and acquitted him of all four counts on July 1, 2025.

Despite the acquittal, he alleged that efforts to prosecute those behind the purported forgery had yielded no result due to what he described as inaction by the state’s Bureau of Public Prosecution (BPP).

He claimed that repeated petitions to the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice had failed to produce any outcome.

“Till date, the Bureau of Public Prosecution has not issued legal advice to enable the arraignment of those involved. Meanwhile, they continue to encroach on our land, destroy property and threaten buyers who legitimately acquired land from my family,” he said.

The Baale further alleged that a parcel of land he personally purchased and secured with police protection, including fencing around the property, was allegedly taken over and re-fenced on the instruction of the traditional ruler.

He also claimed that his company and other properties located on the disputed land were destroyed in what he described as attempts to frustrate him and weaken his claim.

Gbadamosi alleged that invitations extended to the monarch and his brother by the police anti-land grabbing unit were ignored.

According to him, he decided to go public because of fears for his safety.

“I can no longer sleep with my two eyes closed. I am calling on the governor to urgently intervene before something sinister happens,” he said.

When contacted, the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sina Ogungbade, confirmed awareness of the matter but dismissed allegations of inaction.

He maintained that prosecutorial decisions are discretionary and must be guided strictly by available evidence and the provisions of the law.

“The ministry will do what is right in accordance with the law. We cannot be blackmailed or stampeded into taking a predetermined action,” Ogungbade said.

He added that media campaigns would not influence the course of justice.

When contacted for his reaction, Oba Solaja declined to comment on the matter over the telephone, insisting that inquiries be made in person at his palace.
