Doguwa/Tudun-Political crisis deepens as Salisu rejects APC peace bid

All Progressives Congress (APC)

The rift ravaging the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Kano is far from over as political actors in Doguwa Tudun-Wada shunned the party’s reconciliation mechanism.

Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf last week constituted high power reconciliation panel headed by Alh. Bala Gwugwurura to resolve differences emanated during the process of consensus arrangement.

Other members of the committee include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara’u, among others.

Several aspirants refused to accept the outcome of the consensus arrangement of the party thereby insisted on primaries to produce the party’s bearer ahead of 2027 general elections.

At the commencement of the reconciliation meeting held yesterday at government house, several stakeholders’ drawn across the 44 local government areas expressed grievance over the process, seeking proper reconciliation to end what could result to internal crisis.

The reconciliation process however met a critical stalemate following the absent of stakeholders and aspirants from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, one of the constituencies currently attracting public attention due to the political rivalry between the incumbent lawmaker, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and House of Representatives aspirant, Air Vice Marshal Salisu Yusha’u retired.

Those that refused to honor the invitation of the committee are Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, alongside her husband, Salisu Yusha’u. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a serving member attended and participated in the reconciliation meeting.

Crisis broke in the constituency following an endorsement of serving member Hon. Doguwa to contest the 2027 election under the APC platform, a position said to have been favored by Governor Yusuf.

Speaking with The Guardian on the development, Secretary to Committee, Professor Nura Yaro D-Tofa, confirmed both Hajiya Sa’adatu and Salisu Yusha’u were absent from the meeting without any prior notice.

The secretary explained that the reconciliation exercise remains ongoing and has so far covered more than seven federal constituencies and 13 state assembly constituencies across Kano State.

According to him, the process has been progressing smoothly, with the committee optimistic of concluding the assignment successfully within the shortest possible time.

The reconciliation committee, however, reiterated its commitment to ensuring unity, cooperation, and collective success for the APC as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Observers believe the development may be interpreted as a lack of commitment to the peace and unity efforts within the APC and could send negative political signals ahead of the 2027 general elections.
