…Commissioner reveals 6.46m residents registered for Lagos identity card
The Lagos State Government on Wednesday revealed that as part of efforts to empower research and innovation, the state government through the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council has provided N900 million grants to 80 researchers and 75 startups. According to the 2026 grant circle, the council has processed over 240 applications.
The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Tunbosun Alake revealed this on Wednesday at the ongoing annual ministerial press briefing to mark the third year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
The commissioner also revealed that 6.46 million residents have been registered through the Lagos Identity Card Project.
Giving a breakdown of the statistics, Alake said of the registered residents, 4.058 millions were adult while 2.407 were children. “The Lagos Identity card Project is extremely important in governance as a means to maintain an overall view on vision of the current administration as an integral centerpiece of the THEMES agenda on finding innovative ways to improve on efficiency of governance and service delivery for the benefits of the good people of Lagos State.
“The agency operates an open framework that allows multiple parties to participate in the operation and benefits of the exercise as a means to create more value for the state government and businesses within the state while helping to improve the potential opportunities and uses for the new Lagos State residents card.”
Alake maintained that the objective of the framework is to ensure an inclusive participation and integration of multiple agents of government under a unified and efficient approach that makes it possible for the different agencies and their partners to operate independently while leveraging a central infrastructure for data, partnerships and information.
