Kente declares for 2027 Taraba governorship race, criticises Kefas administration

APC chieftain in Taraba State, David Sabo Kente

Chief (Dr.) David Sabo Kente on Wednesday declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Taraba state, citing what he described as poor governance and lack of meaningful development under the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas.

Kente made the declaration in Wukari local government council of the state while addressing supporters, political associates, and residents.

The APC chieftain said growing dissatisfaction with the current administration had prompted widespread calls for him to join the governorship race in order to “rescue the state from total collapse.”

According to him, the decision to contest followed sustained pressure from political stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters from the 16 local government areas of the state.

Kente noted that many Tarabans had supported the emergence of Governor Kefas in the 2023 election with high expectations that the administration would deliver democratic dividends and accelerate development across the state.

He, however, alleged that the administration had failed to meet public expectations despite the huge resources accruing to the state.

“The dissatisfaction among the people has continued to grow, and many well-meaning Tarabans have urged me to come forward and rescue the state,” he said.

The businessman and politician disclosed that stakeholders recently held a meeting in Wukari where leaders reportedly resolved to mobilise resources to obtain nomination forms for his candidacy ahead of the 2027 elections. Following consultations with political stakeholders across the state,

Kente said he had accepted the calls to contest the gover norship election. He also reiterated his support for the principle of zoning in Taraba’s political arrangement, stating that if elected, he would serve only one term of four years before power returns to either theNorthern or Central Senatorial District.

Kente further criticised recent appointments made by Governor Kefas, alleging that some of the appointments involving his supporters were politically motivated ahead of future primary elections.

He called on residents and supporters to remain vigilant and support what he described as a collective mission to reposition Taraba State.

Kente’s declaration is expected to intensify political activities in the state as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
