Kano fish seller, two women arrested over alleged immoral conduct

Authorities in Kano State have arrested a fish seller and two women over alleged involvement in what officials described as “immoral conduct,” in an operation carried out by a state enforcement agency.

The arrests were made by operatives of the Hisbah Board following a report from members of the public who raised concerns over the alleged activities of the individuals. The suspects were subsequently taken into custody after an initial inquiry into the situation.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the operation was part of ongoing enforcement measures aimed at maintaining public morality and ensuring compliance with social conduct regulations in the state. They added that the agency routinely responds to complaints received from communities across Kano.

Sources indicated that the intervention followed observations and reports suggesting that the individuals were engaged in behaviour considered contrary to established moral guidelines.

However, details surrounding the specific circumstances that led to the arrest were still being reviewed at the time of filing this report.

The development has generated reactions among residents in the area, with some expressing support for the enforcement action, while others called for caution and urged authorities to ensure that proper investigation and due process are followed before any further action is taken.

The Hisbah Board, which is responsible for promoting moral conduct and enforcing certain social regulations in Kano State, has continued to carry out similar operations in different parts of the state, often acting on community reports and intelligence-led surveillance.

Officials have yet to release further details regarding whether charges will be filed or if the suspects will be released after preliminary investigations. The case is expected to be reviewed further by relevant authorities in the coming days.
