The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SGH Warsaw School of Economics, in a move aimed at expanding international academic collaboration, student exchange and research opportunities for the institution.

The agreement was signed on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the SGH campus in Warsaw, Poland. LASUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, signed on behalf of the university, while SGH Rector, Professor Piotr Wachowiak, signed for the Polish institution.

The partnership establishes a framework for academic cooperation between both institutions, covering research collaboration, faculty exchange, curriculum development and student mobility.

A LASUSTECH delegation led by Odusanya included the Dean of the College of Applied Social Sciences, Professor Olumuyiwa Olamade, and Dr Ayo Eso. The delegation held meetings with SGH officials and academic leaders during the four-day working visit held between May 11 and May 14.

According to LASUSTECH, the agreement aligns with the Vice-Chancellor’s IMPACT development model, which focuses on infrastructural growth, manpower development, institutional culture and stronger partnerships between the university and society. The university added that the collaboration also supports the Lagos State Government’s THEME+ agenda on education, economic development and global competitiveness.

Founded in 1906, SGH Warsaw School of Economics is regarded as Poland’s oldest business school. The institution currently enrols more than 10,000 students across undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and executive programmes.

LASUSTECH said SGH attained the “Triple Crown” accreditation status in 2025, a recognition held by less than 1% of business schools globally. The accreditations include AACSB in the United States, AMBA in the United Kingdom and EQUIS in Belgium.

The Polish institution also maintains partnerships with more than 300 universities worldwide and belongs to global academic networks such as the Community of European Management Schools and the Partnership in International Management.

Under the agreement, staff of both institutions will participate in exchange and visiting lectureship programmes aimed at encouraging joint teaching and collaborative research.

The arrangement will also allow eligible LASUSTECH students to undertake short-term exchange programmes at SGH Warsaw School of Economics, with credits earned recognised as part of their academic qualifications at LASUSTECH.

Both universities are also expected to jointly develop research projects in areas including financial inclusion, development economics, digital economy and African business environments.

LASUSTECH said the partnership would also create opportunities for the institution to benchmark its curriculum against internationally recognised standards.

The university noted that the research component of the collaboration could significantly strengthen its academic profile, particularly through access to SGH’s economics library, which houses more than 786,000 monograph volumes and about 30,000 foreign electronic journals.

The agreement is also expected to create access to European academic mobility funding and collaborative research grants through SGH’s relationship with Poland’s National Agency for Academic Exchange and programmes such as Horizon Europe.

Speaking on the development, Odusanya described the partnership as part of LASUSTECH’s broader strategy to position the university as an active participant in global academic exchange.

Olamade also said the College of Applied Social Sciences would play a major role in implementing the agreement, particularly in curriculum development, faculty training and improving student outcomes.

The university said the partnership forms part of its wider internationalisation strategy aimed at connecting LASUSTECH programmes with global academic networks, accredited standards and funded research opportunities.
