Mahmud Sadis Buba

Mahmud Sadis Buba has recently drawn national attention after emerging as one of the most talked-about political figures in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Here are seven things to know about the APC aspirant.

1. He is from Kaduna’s Sabon Gari constituency

Buba hails from Sabon Gari in Zaria, Kaduna State, and is seeking to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

He first gained wider attention after successfully scaling the APC screening process for the 2027 election.

2. He reportedly worked as a driver

Before entering mainstream politics, Buba said he worked as a driver.

Speaking about his journey, he said his rise from humble beginnings reflects resilience and determination.

“From my beginning as a driver to this moment, my journey has been built on hard work, resilience, and the belief that every individual can rise to serve,” he wrote on Facebook.

3. He lives with dwarfism

One of the reasons Buba stands out in Nigerian politics is his physical condition.

The less-than-four-feet politician lives with dwarfism, a condition he said was inherited from his paternal grandfather.

In interviews, he has spoken openly about facing discrimination, insults and humiliation because of his appearance.

4. He became a symbol of inclusion for many supporters

Supporters have described Buba as a symbol of hope for young people and persons with disabilities seeking representation in politics.

His appearance during the APC screening exercise in Abuja attracted widespread reactions online, with many praising his confidence and courage.

His political rise has also sparked conversations about inclusiveness and representation in Nigeria’s political system.

5. He has been active in Kaduna politics for years

Although he recently gained national attention, Buba has been involved in grassroots mobilisation in Kaduna for some time.

He chairs the Tinubu–Uba Sani Agenda ’27 support group and has participated in political campaigns and solidarity rallies in support of President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna governor Uba Sani.

He has also taken photographs with several prominent politicians, including former president Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai.

6. His age became a major controversy

Buba’s political ambition was overshadowed by controversy over his real age.

While he claimed during a media interview that he was born in 1995, documents circulating online reportedly suggested a 2010 birthdate.

The controversy triggered debates over eligibility requirements for House of Representatives candidates, as the constitution requires aspirants to be at least 25 years old.

The issue also raised questions about documentation and internal party vetting processes.

7. He eventually withdrew from the race

Following days of public debate and controversy, Buba announced his withdrawal from the House of Representatives race.

He said the decision was reached after consultations with his family, political associates and party stakeholders.

“My withdrawal is not a sign of weakness, but a sacrifice for the greater good of the party,” he said.

Despite the withdrawal, his brief political rise generated widespread national attention and discussions around youth participation, disability inclusion and politics in Nigeria.
