The Companion, an Islamic organisation, at the weekend gave out N6.2 million cash and items in zakat to some selected Muslims in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The group’s state Amir, Dr. Abdulmussawir Alli-Oluwafuyi said that four categories of beneficiaries would benefit over N5 million cash while others would be given business items worth N1.2 million.

 

According to him, eleven students, 19 artisans/business operators, six in serious varying debts and two with health challenges were identified to benefit from the annual zakat programme.

 

Abdulmussawir, listed sewing machines, weaving machine, gas iron and cylinder, projector and blender as items for distribution.

 

He told newsmen that the program is one of the five pillars of Islam that reduces the wide gap between the rich and the poor in any society it is adhered to and sincerely practised.

 

Earlier, Prof. AbdulJafar Olawale Fahm urged the donours not to brood over deductions in their wealth after the donations as anything to consider since he is assured of multiple divine increase in his provisions.

 

“The givers shouldn’t seeing as loss because zakat increases social ratings, guarantees divine blessings and increase their provion increase,” he stated.

 

The duo of the former Managing Director (MD) of Islamic Microfinance Bank (IMB), Mallam Tajudeen Shuaib, and Engineer Kameel Olalekan enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items as well as those that benefitted the cash amounts to always place the fear of Almighty Allah ahead of their business transactions.

 

He also urged them not to sell the items they were given as such actions may discourage the donours which may at the end hurt the tenants of Islam.

 

A beneficiary, Yusuf Aweda, a Digital literacy technologist commended the group, adding that the projector he was given would afford his students opportunity to experience digital world.

 

“We were given projector to aid our teaching world so that our students can be taken to digital world, for unique experience,” he said.
