Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections after securing a unanimous consensus endorsement across all 27 local government areas.
Announcing the result, the chairman of the Electoral Committee sent by the PDP national headquarters, Barrister Isah Ahmed, declared that Lamido emerged unopposed as the consensus candidate, having no challenger in the race.
He said the decision was reached after PDP delegates across the state affirmed Lamido through a voice vote supervised by the committee, following which he was formally presented as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Guardian reports that the process reflected a structured internal arrangement involving stakeholders across the state, culminating in a smooth and uncontested selection exercise.
The Jigawa State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim, also congratulated Lamido, party members, and supporters, commending their conduct during the primaries which he described as peaceful, hitch-free, and successful.
In his acceptance speech, Lamido described his emergence as a renewed mandate to confront what he termed “deepening hardship, bad governance and insensitive leadership” in Jigawa State.
He said the party’s consensus decision reflected unity of purpose, but stressed that the real task lies ahead in delivering good governance to the people.
“We are not here to lament, we are here to fix it,” he said, pledging to restore competence in governance, accountability in leadership, and hope for citizens across the state.
Lamido reaffirmed his development agenda focused on youth empowerment, education reform, healthcare improvement, economic growth, and institutional rebuilding, describing his candidacy as “a collective mission to rescue, rebuild and reposition Jigawa State.”
He called on party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that victory would depend on discipline, cohesion, and shared commitment rather than individual ambition.
“To the people of Jigawa: I hear you, I see you, and I feel your pain. Give me the opportunity to serve you,” he said.
The PDP flag bearer thanked the party’s national and state leadership for what he described as the peaceful conduct of the primaries and urged supporters to sustain unity as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship race.
