Oyetola demands end to political violence in Osun

Minister of Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola

Warns Adeleke against blackmail allegations

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called for an end to political violence in Osun State and cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke against what he described as persistent blackmail and false accusations over recent security incidents in the state.

Oyetola made the call in a statement by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola.

The minister condemned recent attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the incidents as unfortunate and unacceptable in a democratic society.

He stressed that political contests should not degenerate into intimidation, violence or bloodshed.

While urging political actors to embrace peaceful conduct, Oyetola accused Governor Adeleke of repeatedly making allegations against him and the APC without evidence, warning that such actions could heighten political tensions in the state.

“He should stop blackmailing me and stop deceiving the public with false accusations. The people know the truth, and no amount of propaganda can change it,” the minister said.

Oyetola further alleged that attempts to politicise security challenges would not distract from the need to address violence and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.

The former governor maintained that no amount of propaganda or diversionary tactics would alter the political choices of the people ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the campaign period and guarantee the safety of all citizens regardless of political affiliation.

Oyetola also sympathised with victims of the attacks and reiterated that democracy must be anchored on peace, fairness and respect for the rule of law.

According to reports, suspected thugs allegedly linked to the Accord Party attacked APC supporters in Owode-Ede and other parts of Osun State as they returned from a rally in Ile-Ife held in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The development comes amid heightened political activities and increasing concerns over security as campaigns gather momentum ahead of the poll.
