President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigeria has been able to degrade the command centre of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Arege, Borno State.
According to him, this feat was achieved following training with the United States, France and other European countries, leading to precision targeting.
Tinubu, who made this known in his 2026 Democracy Day speech on Friday, expressed delight that terror-related deaths are down by 81 per cent since 2015.
He said that over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised in the past year. The President also announced that the door to surrender is open, noting that over 124,000 fighters and dependents have laid down their arms since 2023 through Operation Safe Corridor.
“To bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror: Surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. No mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” he said.
Tinubu urged Nigerians not to assign blame or point fingers, emphasising that crime has no ethnicity. He assured that with unity, the enemies of the country shall soon be history.
“We will triumph over terror and continue to build a more prosperous nation,” he said.
