Tinubu to recruit 50,000 Police officers, boosts military strength

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to recruit more than 50,000 new police officers alongside thousands of military personnel as part of renewed efforts to strengthen national security across the country.

The initiative, according to the President, is aimed at addressing manpower shortages within the security architecture and improving the capacity of security agencies to respond to rising security challenges in different parts of the country.

He noted that the expansion of both the police and military workforce is part of broader reforms designed to enhance internal security operations, improve rapid response capabilities, and ensure better protection of lives and property.

The recruitment drive is expected to boost nationwide policing presence, particularly in underserved and high-risk areas, while also supporting ongoing counter-terrorism, anti-banditry, and intelligence operations.

The Federal Government says further details on the recruitment process and timelines will be communicated through the relevant security agencies in due course.
