Some communities in Udenu local government area in Enugu State may soon enjoy more reliable and affordable energy as a Firm, J&GSB Energy Enterprise is set to roll out its multi-million naira solar lights projects aimed to boost economic activities and reduce energy costs on the residents.
The project, The Guardian gathered, would also provide solar powered energy to support operations of health facilities and other strategic institutions in the area, improve security as well as reduce crimes.
General Manager of the company, Odoh Chukwuma John, told Journalists in Enugu that the project would also improve economic activities and business operations, environmental sustainability through clean energy utilisation as well as reduce energy costs through solar technology.
Although he declined to state in concrete terms how much the company would invest in the project, he said that the multi-million naira project was being launched to support communities.
“For instance, in Obollo Eke community, in Udenu local government, our interest stems from the community’s strategic importance as a commercial and transportation hub within the local government area. We believe that the installation of solar street lights will create a safer environment for residents, traders, students, motorists, and visitors while promoting nighttime economic activities’, Odoh stated
The Company, which he noted has also been in the business of supply and distribution of quality power products, renewable solutions and energy consultancy, has trained several youths as solar repair technicians and installers.
Odoh noted that the project would further aim at discouraging rural-urban drift, stressing that with availability of power; most rural dwellers would no longer have the need to move their businesses to the urban areas.
Odoh noted that the company decided to place priority in communities for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), because “they are sometimes forgotten in the allocation of government amenities”.
He said that the gesture would be replicated in some communities in Rivers State when discussion was concluded with their members, explaining that it was a way to support the government’s development initiatives.
