Governor Nwifuru donates 31 jeeps to security agencies

As the nation marks June 12 anniversary Governor Francis Nwifuru on Friday donates 31 operational hilux jeeps to security agencies in the state urging them them not to relent in their efforts, especially as political activities ahead of future elections begin to gather momentum.

Governor Nwifuru stated this during the Democracy Day event held at the Governor’s Office, Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki advised them to remain professional, impartial and focused on their constitutional duties, regardless of criticisms or allegations from political actors.

While officially handing over the 31 operational hilux jeeps to security formations operating in the state, he noted that the jeeps will assist them in strengthening security in the state reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and properties.

Speaking further Nwifuru commended the dedication and professionalism of security agencies, describing their efforts in combating crime and maintaining peace in the state as commendable.

The governor disclosed that the state had also procured advanced security equipment, including drones and other digital surveillance tools, to assist security agencies in tracking criminal activities and responding promptly to security threats.

“We have spent huge resources to procure security equipment and operational vehicles because the security of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government,” Nwifuru said.

He said the state government had continued to invest heavily in security infrastructure and modern technology to support security operatives in discharging their responsibilities effectively.

According to him, the operational vehicles form part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening security operations across the state’s 13 local government areas and enhancing rapid response capabilities.

He expressed satisfaction with the performance of security agencies in Ebonyi State, noting that their professionalism and commitment had contributed significantly to the relative peace being enjoyed across the state.

The governor particularly hailed the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps for their collaborative efforts in maintaining security.

Nwifuru recalled that when he assumed office in May 2023, the state faced several security challenges, but attributed the improvements recorded since then to the cooperation among security agencies and the support of residents.

He also noted that many security officers who served in Ebonyi had earned promotions, which he described as recognition of their dedication and quality service.

“This is a political period and there will be allegations from different quarters. I urge you to remain professional, focus on the facts and continue to discharge your responsibilities without fear or favour,” he said.

Nwifuru further commended the people of Ebonyi State, particularly the youth, for their cooperation with security agencies and support for government initiatives aimed at promoting peace and development.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue supporting security institutions with the resources required to effectively safeguard communities across the state.
